Timber frame: an incredible construction method — January 19, 2009

Before deciding to build a timber frame home, you must have a level of background knowledge that will help you to make an informed decision.

In Canada, the United States of America and Northern Europe, the term ‘timber frame home’ usually mean that the inside wall is made from timber studding and the outside wall is covered with some type of timber cladding. In these areas, timber frames are used in the majority of residential construction. In the UK, the internal wall of a timber frame building is constructed using timber studding.

The wooden internal walls of timber frame homes are filled with insulation material, making a timber frame home warmer and more comfortable to inhabit than a block home. Timber frame homes are certainly cheaper in the long term. A block home has more impact on the atmosphere than an eco-friendly timber frame home.

Timber frame is an excellent construction method. Homes constructed with timber frames are more attractive than block building construction, both in sustainability and comfort. Timber frame home are durable and can be passed on to successive generations.
