There are housing developments popping up all over the country and some house builders are turning to more sustainable methods of construction in order to keep the costs of house building to a minimum to make the houses more affordable to those wanting to get onto the property ladder but also to do something for the environment.

Once the frame has been constructed, it is secured to the concrete foundations and the rest of the structure is built around the frame. Energy efficient equipment such as solar panels and specialist central heating systems can be easily incorporated into the build process which makes the house even more sustainable.

There has been a significant increase in the number of house builders turning to timber frame construction when it comes to housing in recent years. Only last week in Freethorpe, a number of individuals were able to move into their new timber frame home that had been built by the Broadland Housing Association.

Timber frame homes allow housing associations as well as builders to construct homes quickly but without compromising on any of the elements that you would expect to find in a new home. In some instances, the new timber frame homes are considerably more sustainable and reach level 3 on the Code for Sustainable Homes which is really impressive. The houses in Freethorpe for example consisted of structurally insulated timber frame panels as well as a number of green features including solar panels and energy monitors so that residents can monitor the amount of energy they are using.

If you are thinking about constructing a new home, you should certainly think about constructing a timber frame home as you could live far more sustainably without impacting significantly on the environment.

Timber frame homes must conform to building regulations — July 20, 2010

There have been reports in the media about the safety of having a timber frame home and whether or not it poses any risk when it comes to fire safety. Although this might be the case with older properties which have been constructed out of timber, it is not the case when it comes to the latest range of timber frame homes that are on the market.

In order for a home to be deemed suitable for occupancy, it must follow and abide by the rules set out by Building Control and Building Regulations. All builders must have a certificate stating that the home they have constructed has been constructed to the standards set by Building Regulations. Throughout the build process, the home will have been checked by Building Regulations to ensure that everything has been followed to the tee, which includes provided fire proof doors and other elements to ensure that the house will not pose any risk, including fire risk.

This is definitely one less thing for you to worry about when it comes to your timber frame home.

Housing schemes are being scrapped — July 16, 2010

In light of the abolition of the Regional Spatial Strategies across England, many of the large housing developments that were in the pipeline and were awaiting decisions have been cancelled, all because of the change in planning policy. This is alerting many house builders and other individuals and it is prompting fear that Britain will not be able to meet the housing need.

There is currently a significant shortage of houses in the UK and the projects that have been cancelled amounted to 7,500 new houses. This will have a massive impact on the housing market.

The reasoning behind the cancelling of such projects is because local authorities have been told to scrap the housing target figures set out in their RSS which has resulted in the local authority being in ‘limbo’ over what number of housing they need in their borough.

This however isn’t taking place in all local authorities, with some councils actually using their initiative and sticking by the figures quoted in the RSS for the time being until they have undertaken the necessary research to assess whether they require more or less housing over the next five, ten or fifteen years.

This is an enormous blow to the house building industry and could result in a large number of individuals becoming unemployed.

More cuts to the house building industry

Category: Home Building Industry — Author: Ken

According to recent reports, the housing industry is going to be hit significantly by the Government’s cuts to various services, including affordable housing. With the scrapping of the RSS and the latest round of cuts, the UK’s housing market is going to be in serious trouble.

There is a desperate need for more affordable housing in the UK, with individuals being unable to get onto the property ladder because houses in their area are not affordable or don’t offer the space required for the price it is being offered at.

Within the latest report, it is claimed that approximately 6,000 new affordable homes will not be built this year and as a result 5,000 construction jobs will be lost. Although it may save the government a considerable amount of money, it will impact significantly on those who relied upon that work and those who are in desperate need of a new home. It is estimated that these cuts will save the government £450 million but in the longer term, how much is it going to cost when all those builders who needed the work are going to be signing on the dole.
