This is in the face of a report which says there is way too much emphasis on new houses being built. Most social housing projects are built by housing associations across the UK. Last year alone, these housing associations accounted for 40,000 properties.
The audit commission however is of a different opinion. Playing the role of spending watchdog, it is putting its money on maintaining existing homes rather than creating new ones, given the recession.
As per the distribution of the council housing projects in various regions across England, here is the breakdown of all the projects. The Midlands will have 12 council housing projects while there will be seven projects in all in the North West. Six of the council housing projects will be in London, six more in Humberside and Yorkshire, five projects in the North East region, six projects in the South West, four housing projects in the South East and only one council housing project in eastern England.

Global warming has come about due to a rise in the levels of carbon dioxide. Such an increased level then leads to an increase in temperature.
Trees are the best way to capture carbon dioxide. The ecological system functions in such a way that humans and trees benefit from each other. For respiration, trees take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen. Humans breathe in oxygen and exhale carbon dioxide. Hence, we can conclude that trees help in maintaining the oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in an environment. Due to pollution leading to rising levels in carbon dioxide, global warming has arisen.
Buildings and apartments are made out of metal, steel, plastic and concrete. Such materials use a lot of energy to produce and create pollution. A raw material such as wood uses minimal energy and can be grown naturally.
Use of timber frame houses is now being recommended to fight against global warming. A timber frame can store carbon and helps in fighting such a climatic phenomenon. Such timber homes do not affect the environment adversely. When a tree is cut down in a managed forest, two more trees are planted in its place. Thus it does not lead to deforestation.
Timber frame houses are known to provide their users with a whole lot of benefits. Timber frame houses look elegant and beautiful. The consultation leaflets have been sent to thousands of people over the controversial plans to construct 150 homes on green belt. Barratt Homes have distributed over 2,000 leaflets to the residents living near the woodland and fields between Wensley Road and the Chase, in Thundersley, where the new homes will be built.
Barratt sets out its plans to put up 61 three bedroom houses, 56 four bedroom houses and 33 two bedroom apartments. They have recently lodged a planning request with the Castle Point Council for the scheme that is expected to face fierce local opposition. A nearby resident, Simon Shepherd, 43, who lives near the Chase, doubts that the area can cope with so much development. He also said that if they build 150 new homes, it means that the area would be bigger than most villages.
Simon also added that with all those additional homes, approximately 500 more people will be living there. How will the sewage, electricity and water cope? It will also stretch schools, doctors’ surgeries and traffic to breaking point. Mr Shepherd is also worried that Barratt will be using this development as a stepping stone to construct more homes. Barratt confirmed the news that it had lodged a planning application. However, they did not comment on the proposals.
