A cross section of some recently completed projects by Southern Timber Frame.

A timber frame bungalow supplied and delivered to Bleaker Island which forms part of the Falkland Islands in the south Atlantic.

This is the second building we have sent over to the Falklands for the same client who owns the island, the building was all packed into 2 containers which included factory insulated wall panels, all the ground floor floor joists were cut to length and sent loose to save space as were the roof materials. Completed May 2011

A development of 14 timber frame flats at Lee-On-Solent, Hampshire. Completed April 2011.

The building consists of 10 flats on the ground and first floors with 4 penthouses on the second floor, each penthouse has its own roof garden with views over the Solent. The roof gardens were all formed as part of the timber frame structure including all firings and finished deck, we also left circular openings on the roof terrace to allow access via spiral stair cases.

A large 2 storey timber frame home in Barnsfield Wood Road, Bromley, Kent.

A spa building at Wellelsley Park in Somerset, completed September 2010.

As you can see from the pictures and floor plans above we had to accommodate the large span over the swimming pool which was achieved by using a mixture of steel and glulam beams within the timber frame.

53 extra care apartments covering a floor area of 5000m2 constructed over 4 floors, Salisbury Road, Andover. Completed April 2010.

A timber frame community centre in Chatham Close, Salisbury. Completed April 2010. The curved roof on this building was formed using a series of Glulam beams and purlins.

A 5 story timber frame care home consisting of 45 self contained apartments over an area of 3500 m2, Poole, Dorset. Completed March 2010.

A single 3 bedroom detached timber frame home, Palm Road, Southampton. Completed November 2009.

This photograph was taken at the end of our first day on site, the second day we fitted the fascia and soffit and the builder had the roof felt & battened. A water tight building was achieved within 2 days, one of the many advantages of timber frame.

A site consisting of 8 timber frame homes for the social sector, Bath Road, Southampton. Completed October 2009.

A large detached timber frame house in Chislehurst, Kent, completed July 2009.

This house is approximately 650m2 with some large open areas which can be seen in the above left photograph showing steel beams incorporated within the floors to help achieve the required spans. Above right are multiple banks of Glulam beams to achieve the large spans and help support the roof structure.

A 3 storey block of flats Tremona Road, Southampton, Hampshire. Completed June 2009.

This development comprises of 9 flats and is being built for a local housing association.

A prestigous 5 storey block of flats over looking Poole Harbour, Dorset. Completed May 2009.

The Penthouse has a curved roof which was manufactured in our factory and then boarded on site to help create the free flowing curve.

The building also had to be designed for disproportionate collapse as it is 5 storey.

We also supplied a large detached garage as part of our package.

This block of flats was supplied to a major contractor who are part of the Balfour Beatty Group.

A timber frame structure incorporating both mono pitch and flat roof design, the mono pitch section of the roof houses the plant room for the building.

A development of 34 flats in Frindsbury Road, Strood, Kent. Completed September 2008.

A development of 5, 3 storey houses overlooking the sea, in Milford-on-Sea, Hampshire.

Completed August 2008.

The roofs on these houses were constructed using a structural Glulam ridge beam to allow for the vaulted ceilings on the second floor, the roofs were also clad with OSB to add stability due to the high wind loadings created by the location.

4 Houses in Winchester Road, Bishops Waltham, Hampshire. Completed August 2008.

This is part of a development of 11 units undertaken by Southern Timber Frame, the last of which was completed December 2008.

6 Storey Block of Flats, St Peters Road, Bournemouth, Dorset. Completed July 2008.

This building incorporates a quite unique feature for timber frame, not only being 6 storeys, it also has a circular stair well on the outside of the structure completly formed using timber panels.

14, 1&2 bed flats, Sandringham Road, Southampton, Hampshire. Completed July 2008.

These flats were built from a split level foundation, with part of the building being 2storey and part 3 storey, the 3 storey section used cranked steel beams within the timber frame to accommodate the room in the roof design.

A development of 7 Luxury apartments, Preston Road, Weymouth. Completed June 2008.

This block of timber frame flats has a roof consisting of three different pithches along with a flat roof area, as well as being constructed on a foundation at split levels.

A development of 10 houses and 10 flats in St Columb Major, Cornwall.

14 Flats, Narrowcliff, Newquay, Cornwall. Completed March 2008.

Most of the internal load bearing and non load bearing walls within this structure were sheathed with OSB on both faces to allow for the high wind loadings due to the location.

The penthouse on the 5th floor is set back from the line of the main timber frame to create a walkway/balcony area, this required the floor panels below to be designed with extra Glulam beams to support the imposed loadings created by this design feature.

A development of 38 low cost housing flats, Mayday Road, Thornton Heath, Croydon. Completed February 2008. This block of flats has a comunial roof garden, complete with trees, plants and lawned areas.
